Art and porn

Kunst und Pornographie sind nicht dasselbe. Aber wenn sie eine enge Liaison eingehen, wird es spannend, immer wieder. Natürlich, jede definiert es anders, was ist Kunst, was ist Pornographie. Helmut Newton’s nudes war früher sehr pornographisch, heute sieht man diese Bilder nur noch als Kunst.

Das Künstler-Duo RIP aus Barcelona experimentiert an dieser Schnittstelle von Kunst und Pornographie. Ihr Lieblingsmotiv: die beiden selbst.

We strongly belive that art and pornography can be totally blended. We try to do so in our art, using pornography as a language. Of course there’s tons of pornography without anything of art. And there’s a lot of art without pornography. But when they come together, they can make an excellent mix, as we see in many artists works, and some pornographers that have strong knowledge of art. (as Erika Lust and their videos of xconfessions). Art doesn’t have to end to let pornography begin. They can be the same, but the final decision is from the spectator, and his ability to see something behind plain pornography.

Inside Flesh ist ein anderes Duo von art merging with pornography: Sylvia Lajbig und Piotr Wegrzynski aus Polen. Dazed hat sie porträtiert. The art porn duo embracing our darkest desires – Inside Flesh is the couple joining pornography with art and high fashion to create beautiful nightmares where there are no limits.

Dark, violent, scary. You wouldn’t want to be part of their art. There’s no humour in it, no easiness, no fun. Aesthetically, Inside Flesh is so far from most porn that it dares you to call it something else. But that would be a huge mistake.

Inside Flesh ist keine konventionelle Pornographie, auch keine feministische oder alternative. Das ist ihnen viel zu anmaßend, sagt Sylvia Lajbig:

“I have always been skeptical about categorizing in “feminist,” “women friendly,” “sex positive” or “ethical” porn.  Creators of these kinds of films seem to suggest that other films are not ethical, non-friendly and show a negative image of sex. At the same time they create “the one and only proper” image of women’s sexuality – I cannot agree to that. I’ve always tried to stand back from politics and religion, because I could not imagine that a stranger would decide about my body, sexuality, what I should and should not perceive as a source of pleasure. Why would I let a porn maker do that? What makes them competent to speak and decide for anyone else but themselves?”

I understand. Eigentlich hat sie recht, aber dennoch – auch ich unterscheide gerne zwischen  guter akzeptabler Pornographie und schlechter „mainstream“.

Kompliziert.
